AIDS Red Ribbon

World AIDS Day is held on 1 December every year internationally to raise awareness about HIV and AIDS. IT was first celebrated on 1st Dec, 1988.

News says that this year’s theme for this day is “human rights and access to treatment”.  This is to address the critical need to protect human rights and make HIV prevention, treatment, care and support accessible to all.

What is AIDS?

AIDS is acquired immunodeficiency syndrome a disease of the human immune system caused by the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV).

HIV Causes

  • Sex without a condom with someone infected with HIV virus
  • Sharing infected needles, syringes or other injecting drug equipment
  • From an HIV-positive mother to her child during pregnancy, childbirth or breastfeeding but there are some effective treatment and care which almost decreases the risk of transmission of the virus to the child.

Cure
Still we haven’t any cure for this disease, just have some alternates to increase the age of the patient so that the patient can be live longer healthy but has no proper vaccination for this.

However, the best way is to protect yourself from HIV by observing the following points:

  • Using condoms correctly and consistently during SEX.
  • Not sharing needles with others and syringes for injecting drugs.
  • Insisting on sterile disposable syringes and needles for injections
  • Avoiding casual and unprotected sex with partners of unknown sexual status

As human, we should love all other human beings and HIV infected peoples are also human beings, we need to be step forward and have to remove this discrimination against all HIV and AIDS patients. Those battling with HIV/AIDS should be treated with utmost equality with others.

Raise Awarness

  • Know about what exactly is HIV and AIDS
  • Clear all the doubts and myths from your mind about HIV and AIDS
  • Know your HIV status
  • Talk about Condom
  • Using a condom during sex is the best way to protect yourself and your partner from HIV and other sexually transmitted infections (STIs).
  • Treat all HIV patient as humans and give equal respect to them.
  • Wear a red ribbon as a symbol of your support for everyone affected by HIV and to raise awareness.
